a bold new initiative

"Our plan is to put the farm at Kilkivan into  community ownership (aka Community Land Trust)... Kilkivan Community Farm may be an apt title!"

With the explosion and impressive growth world wide of farmers markets, local food networks, community supported agriculture, regenerative agriculture, we feel the time is right.

So, is it time to change who owns the land?

What if as "consumers" we actually become part owners of the land, while those who farm the land pay a reasonable "lease" or "rental" which can be easily covered by their production, and they are able to create personal wealth from their farm-based enterprises.

High ideals??  Well, with the advent of the internet, crowd funding, and more, we see this concept as very achievable.

What is required?

  1. The setup of a Community Land Trust for land ownership, which will ensure that the farm continues perpetually as a farm in community ownership.

  2. Enthusiastic young people who desire to be farmers, producing for the local markets (pigs, chickens, beef, milk, vegetables, fruit, sheep, etc).

  3. Young people who desire to be part of the setting up of this concept farm, to become part of the planning and management committee. This whole initiative is driven and designed by young people for the future.

  4. Some one to market/sell the concept.

  5. Social investors, philanthropists and community members who feel driven to fund this initiative and be part of an amazing model of agriculture for the future.

So folks, this is the challenge we offer you.

Feel inspired? Like to be part of the group of like minded young individuals who are making this happen? Choose to be involved.
